new ball joints very stiff

Postby edwtoo » Feb 3rd, 2010 9:45 am

i am in the process of rebuilding the chasis on my 74. i put the ball joints that i recieved from mid america motorworks in and it takes alot of force to move the spindle back and forth, to the point i feel as though the steering will feel very stiff and not center when complete. Is this normal?

Yes, new ball joints are very stiff. That is fine. If the ball joints have grease fittings on them be sure to lubricate them with a good quality synthetic grease. Shoot the grease in until you see the rubber boot start to swell.

:agree:

They need to be tight to prevent wear of the ball joint. You should be all set.
Someday I'll finally be able to drive my Vette, but for now I'll just admire all the pieces... :willy:
