Rusted Doors

Postby kernal » Feb 15th, 2010 10:07 pm

My 73 vette I'm restoring has rusted bottom corners of the door. There doesn't seem to be anywhere to buy door replacements, so what is the recommended route to repair.

Thanks

I know it sounds cheesy, but I have had great luck on Ebay for discontinued parts--Lee

Funny how there is absolutly no information what so ever on repairing corvette doors on the internet. Everything else under the sun is touched on by someone somewhere, but no mention of doors... except for the outer skins...

If I had a template of an existing door corner, I could probably fabricate something.... :bang:

I think your best bet may be to try and fabricate something. You may have to remove your doorskin to do the repair properly thought. I have similar issues on my doors, but to a lesser extent. If you can't find any donor parts on e-bay for a reasonable price I'd try fabricating something.
Someday I'll finally be able to drive my Vette, but for now I'll just admire all the pieces... :willy:

With this product you can do miracles, so you can paste any structural material, it is clear that you must eliminate all the parts and create new ones .. rusty iron or aluminum and then glued with epoxy resin.

Mine were rusted through, beyond repair, but to be honest, rather than hours of work you could pick up a pair of donor doors, i had to due to the FUBAR state of mine.
